Saffron cultivation in Golestan province started for the first time in Vamenan village dates back to the beginning of 1991, when the village cleric, Haj Agha Ahmadi, sought alternative cultivation to change the economic situation of the people in consultation with friends from South Khorasan. Saffron was planted at about 30 kg in 50 meters of land.

In 2013, which was the saffron boom period in Vamenan village, 63 hectares of land under this crop had been cultivated, now it has reached 400 hectares inside Vamenan and more than 500 hectares in the whole region.
